Hello, my name is Karlee Holcomb, and I started playing golf when I was in the 8th grade. The journey leading to the opportunity to play golf started with soccer, then to track, and finally basketball. I fell in love with the game because I had a team to go and support. Helping them with a good score that I could develop was something that I desired. On the course it is you and a ball, integrity is everything I believe that “practice makes perfect so be careful what you practice”-William Channing. All the other sports that I had played made me feel like I was going through all the motions but not being able to see a light at the end of a tunnel. I learned competitiveness through these sports, and how to be a leader, also how to serve people, and how to love well.
When you play a round of golf you have two or three playing partners, these playing partners are in the middle of life just like you. I believe that God gave me that as a platform as a mission field. Shining His light, being selfless and whatever the outcome, may be to try your best and know that there was a purpose for every situation. This is my motivator to keep playing this game it is not about ME it is about glorifying His kingdom.
Competition within the team is very important to me. That is where you see the most success with a team. Golf is a process where I have had to set goals. I never leave the golf course without finishing something I started. No matter the time you never leave without a job not completed. Trusting the process is very important. You have to maximize your capability to the strongest parts of your game. It is a challenge to figure out what that looks like for yourself. Developing your game takes time and effort and if you want to maximize your talent and potential you must do that.
The mental part of the game is a challenge that I accept everyday on and off the golf course. You have to believe in yourself and know that no one is perfect. Your inner conscience tells you lots of lies that is why I accept the challenge that it is not going to win me over.
