My life as an athlete, is based off the reactions to the obstacles that life has put in my way. I began my golf journey when I eight years old because of tradition; although, tradition dictates that a father and son partake in a sport together, I had to break through the norm, not because I'm rebellious, but because my brother had the inability to do so. Autism, to this day affects my brother, and gives him the inability to play. I knew I had to do this, to support him. My father taught me to play the game then I entered a program called “First Tee”, not only did I learn the game of golf clearly, but, I was taught “honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, perseverance, courtesy, and judgment”. These are not only the six core values of golf, but they impact my life as well. As time passed, my parents began to struggle with money affecting not only my game, but my attitude as well. My life started to fall apart, at one point my family didn't even have food in our fridge, so my mother had to sell her engagement ring along with my father's college ring. Only to be able sustain, drive to school, and golf practice. I appreciate my parents not only because golf has affected me, in a positive way. To truly shape my resilient strength in a unique way, teaching me the true value of life. Athletics has brought my family together, which made me have a closer relationship with my father while showing support for my brother.
