I began playing golf with my dad when I was 8, and I loved it from the start. Being from a small, rural area, there are not many other women here that play competitively, so my golfing group has mostly been my dad and his golfing buddies. It was a steep learning curve, and those guys never took pity on me, but I've learned to hold my own. Learning and growing my game in this environment has instilled in me a strong work ethic and resilience, both of which have helped set me apart from girls my age as I've transitioned to more tournament play in larger regions.
While golf is my main focus, attending a small 1A school affords me the ability to play in many other sports as well. I use the lessons of team work and mental toughness from basketball, track, and cross country to improve my overall conditioning for golf. Student athletes are held to a high behavior and academic standard at my school, too, so I feel I'm being well prepared to meet the demands of a college athlete already. This love of sports, competition, and the camaraderie of my close-knit community is what fuels my interest in majoring in exercise science in college.
In short, I love feeling like part of a team, and there's nothing as fun as celebrating a win together!
