Personal Statement

Finishing my junior year in high school and I am very proud on how I finished the year. I won districts by shooting a good 68, than advancing to state after shooting a 76 and 75 at regionals. Then I got the opportunity to play at state and shot a 76 for both days, I placed 12th as an individual. This summer I will be Working hard this summer and can't wait to see what is next for me.

Entering my second year (Sophomore) on Varsity. My goals this year is to improve on my GPA and lower my 7 handicap from last year. Playing this last summer in two day golf tournaments I spent more time learning about the course I was going to play rather than trying to perfect every aspect of my game. During practice rounds I would document which clubs and shots I would use most and practice those clubs or shots during the week. I would also make notes of green slopes and breaks for approach shots and puts.  I started to learn the process on how to play different courses (strategy). Another goal I have this year is to make the Texas State Golf Tournament. In Regionals last year I finished 31/96 as a freshman and feel this year I can do a lot better.

My name is Madison Silva (freshman) and I just began my first year on the varsity golf team at Pflugerville Hendrickson High School (Enrollment 3125). In my first three tournaments I shot 75 (2nd), 83, and 77 (5th).  I am eager to compete this spring in district and hopefully competing in the toughest girls region in Texas (Region 2 6A). I have been competing in tournament golf since the age of 10 and played in over forty recognized tournaments in 2015. Golf is the game I love to compete, enjoy to practice and relax watching.  I am competitive, understand the work necessary to constantly improve, and look forward to competing at the next level.

Events

  • Camp/Event
  • 6A State golf tournament
  • 5/21/18 to 5/22/18
  • For state I placed 12th as and individual and shot a 76 for both days. My putts ands irons were my best qualities during this tournament. My bunker shots also helped me save par.
  • Camp/Event
  • 6A regionals tournament
  • 4/23/18 to 4/24/18
  • My 6A regionals was held at cottonwood creek golf course and I placed 2nd as an individual. I shot a 75 and 76 for the two days I was there for and qualified for state.
  • Camp/Event
  • Holiday Classic TJGT Event
  • 12/28/17 to 12/30/17
  • 80-74-75 finished 4th place out of 46 players. The course played 5775 yards and the weather was cold 34-45. I never got my putter going until maybe the last nine holes. The first day my irons were off and just could not get in a groove. The second day I tied for lowest round shot (74), while the third day I just felt like I left shots out on the course even though I shot 75.
  • Camp/Event
  • 6A State Preview
  • 11/17/17 to 11/18/17
  • 80-77 11th place out of 85 girls. Did not play my best, I hit to many fairway bunkers and could not salvage par, short game was not sharp. Last day I had 3 birdies 3 doubles and 2 bogeys to finish at plus 5.
  • Camp/Event
  • Red River Challenge TJGT vs OJGT
  • 10/28/17 to 10/29/17
  • 79-77 9th place out of 32 players. The course was 5725 yards (134/75.7), but played much longer with wind and sever elevation changes. The first day was hour and half delay because of frost and I played in 36-40-degree temperatures. I struck the ball well but missed to many puts, three putting two of last three holes on second day. The more I played the course the better I understood it shooting 85 and 83 during practice rounds.
  • Camp/Event
  • Cottonwood Creek Championship
  • 10/14/17 to 10/15/17
  • 79-76 2nd place out of 15 players, 5745 yards Course rating 73.4 with 124 slope. Wind was a big factor during tournament. First day I could not pick the right club for the 20 mph winds and my short game was not as sharp. The second day I hit more greens and although my putting was a little better it did not cost me strokes like day 1.
  • Camp/Event
  • Texas Girls Invitational
  • 9/23/17 to 9/24/17
  • 5920 yds 137 slope. I shot 83-82. 23rd out of 50 girls, and no player shot a round under par. The course played very tough if you missed fairway or green. The rough was the toughest part of the course. Very thick around green made chipping tough. Greens were very well sloped, not to fast but very difficult to find a straight putt.
  • Camp/Event
  • George Hannon Junior Invitational
  • 8/14/17 to 8/15/17
  • 77-79 Course rating 74.7 slope 130, yards 5735. Played in very windy conditions. Birdies were hard to get with bumpy greens. Second day started off very bad going OB off tee and being seven shots over in first six holes. I finally got myself together and shot even par the last 12 holes and finishing 79 on second day.
  • Camp/Event
  • AJGA-Cameron McCormick Junior All Star
  • 8/07/17 to 8/10/17
  • 77-76-79 The course played 5940 yards, course rating 73.3 and 129 slope. I played decent but a couple of shots off the tee cost me some strokes along with only getting up and down 50% of time.
  • Camp/Event
  • South Texas Section Jr PGA-Prestige Tour
  • 6/12/17 to 6/13/17
  • 6th place out of 45 girls 74-76 72.3/132 5860 yards. Putted very well, tough field. Had to carry ball over many bunkers and water to reach green.
  • Camp/Event
  • Shoot out in the Hills-Prestige Tour
  • 6/05/17 to 6/06/17
  • 1rst place finish 76-76 70.3/128 5650 yds. Bad weather caused delay, very wet conditions.
  • Camp/Event
  • Prestige Tour Preview
  • 5/06/17 to 5/07/17
  • 1rst Place finish, shot 78 first day third place, 3 strokes behind leader. Final group pairing I shot 76 winning tournament by one shot. 78-76-154 Very sloped greens, hit the ball well I just could not make birdie putts.
  • Camp/Event
  • Region 2 6A
  • 4/26/17 to 4/27/17
  • Finished 79-82, placed 14/95. Very windy conditions but didn't play my best. Second day took chances to improve my position and it ended up costing me shots.
  • Camp/Event
  • AJGA Preview at Fair Oaks Ranch
  • 3/25/17 to 3/26/17
  • 2nd Place finish 75-76, Very windy (35 mph) second day, struggled off the tee but I was able to birdie 4 of the last 8 holes to hold my position at 2nd and only two shots back from first place.
  • Camp/Event
  • TJGT The Republic Spring Break Jr Shoot Out
  • 3/18/17 to 3/19/17

  • Camp/Event
  • STPGA Battle at the Republic
  • 3/13/17 to 3/14/17
  • 73-72-145 1st place finish out of 33 players. Very tough greens but really putted well which led to the victory.
  • Camp/Event
  • STPGA Spring Break Classic
  • 3/11/17 to 3/12/17

  • Camp/Event

  • 9/17/16 to 9/18/16

  • Camp/Event
  • US Kids Teen World Championship
  • 7/28/16 to 7/30/16
  • Finished 5th out of 50 fourteen year old girls. I shot 80 the first day, tied for 10th. The second day I shot another 80 and moved up two spots to 8th place. The final day I shot 75 and moved up 3 spots to 5th place. I only played the front nine the day before tournament (practice round) never got to see the back until tournament began. Very tough greens and ball placement on green was very crucial. The course played 5780 yards.
  • Camp/Event
  • STPGA Shoot Out In The Hills STPGA Junior Golf Tour
  • 7/18/16 to 7/19/16
  • Finished first place overall girls 13-18. The course played 5683 yards. The first day I shot 34-39-73 and led the field by 4 shots.
