My name is Megan Van Leeuwen. I’m seventeen years old, and I’ll be a senior this coming year at Bountiful High School. I’ve lived in West Bountiful, Utah my entire life. Ever since I was young I’ve loved sports. I did gymnastics for ten years, which taught me how to strengthen my muscles and properly take care of my body. I also played soccer and basketball for a few years, which helped me learn to be a team player and work well with others. I loved all of my experiences with these sports, but decided to drop them all to focus on golf.
I have a love for the game of golf, and have been playing off and on since I was nine years old. When I was a freshman I made the varsity team and have been playing all three years. My team has taken first in region every year, and in state we placed second my freshman and sophomore year, and fifth my junior year. I placed in the all-region team my sophomore and junior year, as well as the second all-state team.
This summer I am playing in as many tournaments as I can to strengthen my skills and lower my score. Most of my tournaments have been with the PGA, but I’ve done one with Rocky Mountain Junior Golf Tour and one with the UGA. Just in the last month I have shot 79 twice, my personal low tournament score, both with the Utah PGA. I’ve shot 2 80’s, first at the Mary Lou Baker Tournament, and then again at Wolfcreek with the PGA. I’m very interested in taking my game to the next level by playing collegiate golf.
I take my education very seriously. So far I have maintained a 3.9 average, I have been on the high honor roll every term since seventh grade, and I’m also a member of the National Honor’s Society. English is my favorite subject and I plan on going into creative writing to pursue my dream of being a novelist. I am also involved in the choir, as well as the orchestra, where I play the violin.
