Personal Statement

I'm Maddie Cameron and I'm a senior at Yorktown High School. Originally introduced to the game the summer before my freshman year of high school by my Dad, I discovered my love of golf later than most competitive players. I officially started playing golf my freshman year of high school and joined my high school's golf team. It was then where I quickly developed a love for golf. I just wrapped up my 2024 high school season as the only female who made the co-ed team and a Team Captain. I led the co-ed team with a tournament 9-hole average of 37 and overall 9-hole average of 38.6.

After playing in my first Peggy Kirk Bell tournament my sophomore year, I quickly found that I had a love for competitive golf and knew I had found my passion, so I set a goal to play at the collegiate level. I dedicated myself to the game and worked with my swing coach to make improvements to my swing. I went to the range every day and got out on the course whenever I could. My hard work resulted in improvements to my game and in the past year my handicap has dropped significantly, from a 25.2 to a 5.4 and am now at 3.6. I was also the only female to make my high school’s co-ed golf team during my junior year. In my most recent tournaments I have had multiple rounds in the 70s and have even shot my lowest 18 hole score of 73.

My first exposure to collegiate golf happened when I attended a golf camp at Duke University after my sophomore year. I learned from it, had a lot of fun and confirmed my aspiration to play golf at the college level. To achieve that I plan to continue to build on my Peggy Kirk Bell tournament experience this spring and summer by participating in as many tournaments as I can.

I would be a great addition to your team because I am a team player, hardworking, passionate and I genuinely love golf. I work hard not only in golf, but I also put a lot of effort into school. And I believe these things will make me a successful contributor to a team and program.
