Personal Statement

For the past five and a half years I have been committed to the game of golf. My father had introduced me to golf when I was about thirteen. For the past few years, I have improved not only my golf game, but myself as a person as well.

I began playing competitive golf in the 8th grade through the OJGA. (Oregon Junior Golf Association). My scores have progressively improved. From my first tournament (and first eighteen holes ever) shooting a 136, to now shooting consistently in the mid to low seventies.

My freshman year of high school I played for Battle Ground High School. As a freshman, I was the number one seed on the Varsity team. Consistently shooting in the low forties for nine-hole matches. I took sixth in districts, as well as taking a spot on first team all league for our region.

My sophomore year at Battle Ground, I was again the first seed on Varsity. Shooting low forties, high thirties for our matches. During districts I was tied for first, but losing on the last hole. Shooting eighty-two's both days, losing only by one. At state I placed twenty-third out of eighty-two girls. Shooting 87-85.

In my Junior year, I transferred to Union High School. I have shot a 34, 2 under par, and a 74, 1 over par, both high school records in competitions in my district. At the 4A girls state tournament, I placed 10th shooting 81-78, which was also a school record of lowest finish in the State tournament for my high school. I had also improved my study habits and raised my GPA. Starting to grow and learn how important school and golf is for my future.

My senior year of high school, I faced adversity after a freak accident in the classroom. Leaving me to watch my team practice the first two weeks of my final season. That didn’t stop me, as soon as I was able to get my hands on a club again I was better than before. I led the first day at our district tournament, shooting 75. However, got ahead of myself the second day shooting 81. My last ever state tournament came around, and all I could focus on was competing the best I could for myself and my team. That year I shot 73-71, and placed second as my final high school event beating my previous lowest finish record from the year before.

I’ve now moved on to college, and have a season as a Portland State Viking under my belt. As a freshman in the first season, I traveled to every event. And every event had at least one scoring day contributed to the team score. However, I had injuries and medical issues come up for our second season and my coach and physical trainer wanted me to take a break. We found that Portland State truly wasn’t the fit for me. And decided to go through with release forms. On my events page, you can find all the events that I participated in during my season.
