Personal Statement

My name is Elizabeth Dolan and I am a Senior at Kelso High School.  I was introduced to golf at the age of 7 by my grandfather and started competitively playing in Washington Junior Golf  Association (WJGA) tournaments at the age of 9. Ever since then, I have continued to improve upon my physical and mental game to play to the best of my abilities. In the spring and summer, I practice at least 6 times a week. During the fall, I run varsity cross country for my high school.

Over the years, I've learned what sacrifices have to be made in order to achieve success. Whether it be keeping a strong focus or staying composed when times get tough, I am commited to achieving the goal of playing at the college level. Last February, I got the oppurtunity to go the Vision54 program, which focuses on the mental game. The program was a real eye-opener to how much my game could improve by changing my mindset. About one month later at the WJGA Western Open, I shot a new personal best score of 72. According to 2019 WJGA statistics, I ranked #1 in the 14-15 age group statewide with 2 eagles and have a total number of 5 official tournament eagles in my golfing career. I am also ranked #3 for breaking par and #4 for a birdie average of 2.5.

People often tell me I always bring optimism and a smile on my face wherever I go. In 2018, I received the WJGA District 3 Joan Teats Inspirational Award which is granted to one player that displays a positive attitude with both winning and losing, a good role model to young players, works hard to achieve their goals, and shows growth and maturity on and off the golf course. I feel that with the optimism I carry on the golf course,  I will be a great asset to the collegiate golf team. For the future, I will be working on becoming more consistent with my golf game, and continue to grow my mental strength.
