Having the privilege of being a three-sport athlete I can learn a lot about myself and others. Golf, cross country, and track could be considered "individual" sports, in which I love playing/running for myself; however, I also love contributing to team achievements. Most of all I have learned many valuable lessons on the fine line of self-discipline. Playing and running to the best of my ability means I need to have to have a certain level of time management and self-drive on my own, but having too much discipline can lead to me being too hard on myself. After completing almost two years of these sports I tend to find that in between more and more often.
When it comes to golf, I am very strong mentally. This is another characteristic that playing multiple sports has taught me. I believe that this mental toughness allows me to bring a positive attitude to practice and tournaments every day. I contribute to my team by raising the energy and reminding myself and my teammates to take it one day at a time. I also help encourage my teammates to train with me year-round. During my off-season, I focus on getting swing reps and getting in the weight room.
In the classroom, I strive to fully understand the content that is being provided for me. I work to maintain a high GPA by using my little time at home between practices to study as needed. I also make time during school to talk through the content with classmates or teachers to allow for deeper comprehension.
I want to attend a college that will help me reach my goals on the course and in the classroom. I want my team to elevate my attitude and performance. I want to be a positive role model to my peers while being able to find others to look up to and help make me a better person and athlete.
