My name is Abigail (Abby). I am a junior at Horizon High School in Thornton, CO. I have been in gymnastics most of my life starting with classes at our local recreation center where I eventually earned an invite to be on their (CARA) competitive teams. I have been a part of the team for the past 8 years. The last 3 years I have competed on the high school team. My high school does not have a team, but I am allowed to compete with the Thornton High School team. My skill level is not as high as I would like them to be because my first 2 seasons of high school I was dealing with injuries. Unfortunately, I had a fracture in each of my ankles which caused me to miss significant time with not only my high school team, but my CARA team as well. This past season was my first full season of competing on bars with varsity and I was able to qualify for the State Gymnastics meet.
I am a part of the SOAR program at Horizon High which is an honors program that provides structure and support for high-achieving students to prepare for college and beyond. I currently have a 4.03 GPA and I am interested in a career in physical therapy. The reason I am interested in physical therapy comes from my experience rehabbing from injuries as well as the sports medicine class I am currently taking. During my senior year I am planning to take the next level up of the sports medicine class.
One word that describes me is perseverance. Not only having to fight through multiple injuries, but I am also a dyslexic. Having dyslexia has given me the resolve and perseverance to find ways that help me learn not only the material from my classes but my gymnastics skills as well. I am a really hard worker and super determined to be successful in the gym and in my career.
