Hello coaches and recruiters! My name is Taryn Oloriz. I am a grade 12 student at Foothills Composite High School in Okotoks, Alberta. I currently play for the U18AAA Rocky Mountain Raiders. I started playing hockey when I was nine years old and have loved the sport ever since. I moved to Okotoks this year when I was asked to play with the Raiders and now billet with a wonderful family. In past years I played for Calgary Fire U15AA in 2018-2020 and U18AA in 2020-2021.
I have been very fortunate in my hockey career as my Dad played Junior hockey as well as College Hockey and then went on to coach males in U18AA, U18AAA and Mount Royal College in Calgary. He has shared his hockey knowledge with me, and I strive to have the same drive, skill, work ethic and positive attitude as he has role-modelled me. He is now our team General Manager and I have so much appreciation for all the work he does for us as he navigates owning his own insurance business as well.
My Mom has been my biggest cheerleader in my hockey career and loves to support not only me but my teammates and their families. She has worked as a Correctional Officer with youth aged 12-18 for 24 years now so has always been able to help me navigate through challenging times that arise.
In 2016, our team cut our hair for cancer and put our names in to win a chance to attend Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada in Kenora, Ontario. We flew to Toronto to compete against boy's teams in different skills challenges. We were lucky enough to win, so in February 2017 we flew to Ontario and participated in the events with Lanny Macdonald, Cassie Campbell, Don Cherry and other respected members of the hockey world.
When I play hockey I feel like I am able to create strong relationships with my teammates and learn something new every day. The ability to create friendships with my teammates is something that is very important to me. I am a very outgoing friendly person who tries to include everyone around me.
I feel very privileged to play this sport. My goals each year are to work hard, learn as much as I can, support my teammates and of course score some goals and win some games!!
I consider myself a leader and always wish the best for everyone on my team.
My main focus in the next two years before graduation is to get stronger, and faster and expand my knowledge of the game.
I pride myself at being an excellent student. I work very hard to get marks that will allow me to play hockey and go to University/College as it is essential to balance education and sport.
