My name is Evelyn Andrade and I'm a hockey and softball player with a tireless work ethic. I've grown up playing hockey and baseball with my brother. No matter where we are or what we're doing, we can turn anything into a friendly competition.
For the 2018-19 season, I played for San Jose Jr. Sharks 19AAA. We were fortunate enough to compete at USA Hockey Nationals. In the prior season, I split my time between the 18U Midget (Div3) team out of Dublin California: Tri-Valley Blue Devils, and the San Jose Jr. Sharks 19AA Girls team. I also play for my high school on a coed Varsity Team: California High School Grizzlies in San Ramon, CA.
I am a defender and pride myself on my skating skills. I have worked hard to not only gain higher level edge work, but also to increase my acceleration in order to beat 18U male competitors to the puck. Moving from the men's game to the women's game, I've had to relearn some defensive moves and gain strength over possession. My coaches have expressed confidence in my growth and appreciation for my aggressive skating and defense style.
Chemistry is my intended undergraduate major. I'm in my second summer as a laser-systems student intern at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (40 hours/week).
I plan to play hockey for the rest of my life. I hope to play it in college where I am surrounded by others who work as hard as I do and are dedicated to their craft. I believe I have skills and experience to be a contributor on a team in college. I am the first on the ice and the last one off.
