My favorite quote is “Prove Them Wrong.” This quote means a lot to me for many different reasons and is even written on the back of my ice hockey goalie helmet. At the beginning of my travel hockey career, I did not get picked for the top teams. I was upset that my skills were not seen but I made the best of it by working hard, playing on two teams, and training with a private goalie coach. Three seasons later I made the top team in the program. I worked hard and felt my skills had finally been seen. Then the next season I tried out for the top tier girl’s team in the state. I made it, except I was told I was going to be a backup. This was the first time when I did not want to just make the best of it. When I was designing my helmet, I came across the saying, “Prove Them Wrong.” The quote sparked something in me to want to do more. I wanted to prove my coaches wrong that I was not just a backup. I realized I could not just rely on how hard I was currently working. I knew I needed to work harder, not just work hard in most practices but work hard in every practice. Having this saying on my helmet reminds me that I can do even more than what I am doing. The quote has helped me be the goalie I am and pushes me to be the goalie I want to be. It reminds me of where I started and how I pushed myself. It has helped me in other areas of my life as well. In school, the quote encourages me to do more. I have always liked school. As I got older, school became harder. During my freshman year, I started to struggle which was weird to me because I thought I was working hard enough. Throughout that year, I remembered my quote and what it meant and studied harder than before. To me the saying means I can do more, I can redefine what it means to work hard.
