Hello, my name is Mackenzie and for the past couple years, I have strived to acquire a position on a college hockey team. I've taken the steps of being on the Colorado 14ers U19 AA team to improve my skills in order to compete at a collegiate level. I started playing ice hockey three years ago, and my work ethic has driven me to persevere through many challenges along my journey. Many times, I have been given the option to give up the sport or simply play at a lower level for the rest of high school. However, I have never taken that option and I have always strived and reached for higher levels no matter what. I've been told to quit hockey because I'm a girl, or to quit a certain team because I wasn't "good enough," but giving up has never been a choice for me personally. I have continuously pushed any verbal and physical abuse out of my view and out of my way to become the best person and player I can be.
If I get the opportunity to play collegiate hockey, I would bring many assets to the organization. I am a hard worker, determined and willing to put in the work with any struggles I may have in the future. I have great teamwork ability - I'm friendly, approachable, and I support my teammates and even other teams if they are having a hard time or simply to be kind in general. I take advice and criticism well. With my strong skating abilities, and exceptional teamwork, I have made great strides in my hockey growth. Although I am my worst critic, I will take advice/suggestions others give me and learn from it. If I make a mistake, I go over it and ensure it is not repeated. I love playing hockey because whenever I am feeling stressed or worried about something, I can always get on the ice and play it out. This sport means everything to me and I never take it, or any opportunities, for granted. I do well in school and am able to maintain my grades with perseverance and hard work. My goal is to compete at the highest level I can achieve and more; I believe the best fit for me is a college that would provide me with a great education and leadership I can model myself after.
