My name is Faith Minickene. I play on the Mid Fairfield Stars 19U-2 team as a right wing or center player (#5). In April, we placed 3 in Nationals where we made it to the semifinals. I scored 2 goals and 2 assists in a total of 5 games. I ranked #23 in points . I scored a SHG to win the first game. I also scored the first goal in semifinals against Syracuse Valley Eagles who came in first place. It was my second trip to Nationals. This year, we came in second place in states and first place in regionals, winning all 5 games. I had the assist for the only goal to get us into the championship game.
I am interested in exercise science/kinesiology. I am also the varsity hockey starting center (#3) for Daniel Hand High School and the goalie for Daniel Hand High School varsity field hockey team (#85).
I started playing with the Mid Fairfield Stars 19-2 when I was 16 years old. We placed 2nd in states and regionals and played in Nationals in PA. Coach Abbie Ives, Ty Demartin and Bill Maniscalco helped our team develop and made us believe in ourselves. I had a lot of success as well and really felt I contributed to the the team through scoring, passing, winning battles and encouragement.
I've played the starting center for my high school team, Daniel Hand High School in Madison, CT. Freshman year, I received the SCC Honorable Mention and MVP. Sophomore year, I received an award for most points (most goals and most assists). Last year, as assistant captain, I earned SCC First team, the MVP Award and the Award for Most Points. I was also voted by my peers to be Captain next year. In field hockey, I am the varsity goalie and freshman year I received the Coaches Award. This year, as Varsity goalie, I earned SCC second team, All-State first team, All-Area first team and was voted Player of the Week.
I started playing hockey at 3 (my mom's idea) and I've been playing ever since. I played for Yale Youth Hockey for 9 years and earned the Marrottolo award for playing every year through PW where we won the state championships for the Yale 05 AAA. As the only female player on the team, I felt like I had to try harder because of my size at the time. But in the final season at Yale, I had 3 hat tricks because my amazing coach pushed me and helped me gain confidence.
I really love playing hockey and want to continue to play in college. I feel that my strengths and love for the sport will make me an important member of my team. I am a team player and give everything I do 110%. My coaches and I have positive working relationships and they all know that I work hard and do whatever it takes to make the season a positive and fun experience. As a teammate, I always encourage and support everyone so that, as a team, we could be successful.
