I first stepped out on the ice at the age of seven. I started out with figure skating and soon realized it wasn't for me. At age nine I put on my first pair of hockey skates and never looked back. I began playing as part of a house league team at a local rink. I continued to play hockey on a boy's travel team. Three years after starting to play, I made a select girls team. I still play on a select girls hockey team during my fall seasons as a starter. As a freshman in high school, I made the boys Varsity team. I continue to play for the Varsity and JV team. My coaches have commented on my growth as a hockey player and my coachability. After playing girls hockey most of my life, with the help of my coaches, I have adapted very well to play at the Varsity level of boys hockey. This includes working to build my strength, speed, and physicality. My sophomore year on the high school team, we made it to states for the first time in team history.
With the lack of a girls hockey program, I have worked with the headmaster of Woodstock Academy as well as the athletic director in order to begin a girls hockey program at my high school. I participated in media advertisement for our upcoming girls program that will begin in the fall of 2016. This is the first of it's kind in my school. It's an honor to play a part in the formation of the program. This program will give other girls the opportunity to represent Woodstock Academy through an incredible sport.
Not only did I push myself in athletics, I strive to excel in my academics. I work hard to maintain a high GPA of 3.92. I have pushed myself to complete a large number of my core courses prior to completing my junior year. I am a member of Spanish National Honors Society, National Honors Society, and Student Council. I also take time to tutor math students as well as Spanish students. Inaddition to tutoring, I volunteer my time to community service. As I look forward to the future, my goal is to play hockey in college while continuing my education. I plan to obtain a bachelor's degree in psychology and continue my education by obtaining a master's degree in order to become a physician assistant.
