Hi my name is Ella Volpe. I am 16 years old and I play ice hockey. It has been a personal goal of mine to play the sport I love at the collegiate level since I was 10. I have been skating since I was 4, and ever since I saw my brother on the ice playing hockey, I knew figure skating wasn’t for me anymore. I needed something with less glitter, and more grit, so hockey was definitely the way to go. Hockey is one of my biggest passions, and I’ve seen and done so much because of it. Many of my favorite memories ever took place on the ice. I remember my first year of hockey, I was 11. My team was in the state tournament, and we had to play against the undefeated team who beat us 0-15 a couple months before. We were all so scared to play them, but we worked hard, and pulled out a 1-0 win, giving that team their first loss of the season. I was so proud of my team and so happy to be a part of that big win. Another funny time was at a practice, we brought our dog, Blu, to the rink after picking him up from the vet. When we got there my mom just handed him to me, which was weird because my practice started in 20 minutes, so I had no other choice then to bring him into the locker room with me and my team. Everyone was so excited, they pet him, and gave him belly rubs, and Blu was really happy too. All of my memories from this sport just makes me even more passionate about it, and I wouldn’t even be close to the person I am today if I had never laced up my hockey skates for the first time. I feel that I would be a good player to have on your team because I am a team player and I give 110% to reach my goals. I have really good edges and skate well. I pride myself in my shot because it is hard and accurate. Academically I strive to do well in all of my classes. My strongest subjects are math and science. I am interested in many fields such as astronomy, marketing and graphic design. I have not yet decided what I want to study in college. Setting all athletic and academic achievements aside, I feel its most important to be a person who will respect and help others, who can overcome adversity and has a sense of leadership.
