Most of what has driven me in life is setting goals for myself. Whether it is sports, school work, or improving myself as a person, I have always pushed myself toreach mygoals. My current goals are to continue to improve my hockey skills at the AAA level and academically to maintain my standing on the first honor roll throughout my entire high school career and to be selected to the National Honor Society.
I originally became interested in playing hockey by watching the Blackhawks. I wanted to be just like Jonathan Toews. Through playing hockey, I have learned that if I put my mind, heart, and hard work into anything I can accomplish my goals. My goals after high school include going to a college where I can pursue a career in pediatric medicine and also continue my hockey career. In establishing those goals, I believe I am setting myself up for a successful future.
I try to set high goals for myself and expect that I might encounter some obstacles along the way but feel as long as I work hard and stay positive I can overcome them. As I did not start playing hockey until sixth grade, one obstacle I had to face was developing my skating and hockey skills quickly because most of the girls I started playing with had been playing hockey from an earlier age and were ahead of me. I faced this obstacle by skating extra over the summers and working on my stick handling in my basement. I was able to overcome my later start in the game and progressed from a house league team to a AA team to now being on a AAA team.
