I am currently a Junior at Dowling Catholic High School in West Des Moines, Iowa. I have a cumulative GPA of 4.25. I am thinking of studying either Actuarial Science or Engineering in college. I am involved in many school activities including cross country, art club, peer tutors, and National Honor Society. I also stay active in my community with 150+ service hours.
I am currently a goaltender for the Des Moines Capitals (AA boys high school club team) which competes in the Midwest High School Hockey League (MHSHL). I am the first girl to be drafted to one of the two competitive teams in this league, in my area. I played many JV games and a few varsity games throughout this past season. (If you look at my information on these websites, it has me listed as 6'2" and 220lbs, this is a typo on their part) This season I will play many Varsity games and I hope to help my team win state. My goal is to play competitive college hockey.
I feel like I would be an asset to many teams with my competitive and determined nature, my grades, and my ability to play hockey. I have a team-first mentality and will always do whatever it takes to help the team succeed.
I have put in many hours (136) of practice both on my own, and with goalie coaches this past summer to prepare myself for this season. I attended OS Prospects, Beantown, and America's Showcase this summer. I also attended a week at both Bujan Goaltending and The Goalie Club to get instruction. This summer I plan to continue my hard work and dedication to this sport! I will be attending OS Prospects, Derek Bujan's Pro prospects Camp, Stop It Goaltending's Pro prospects Camp, I will be working with a semi-local goalie twice a week, as well as GoalieCoaches' office training program. I am looking to maximize my ice time and exposure this summer to set myself up for a great senior season.
Being a female goalie from Des Moines, IA, I do not have many opportunities to be seen, and people do not seem to hold high expectations prior to meeting me. I have a habit of surprising people and surpassing their expectations. I beat the odds when I became the first girl to ever be drafted onto my current team. Furthermore, I surprised everyone by playing three varsity games that season (with two older goalies on my team) as well as about half of the JV games. I had helped my Varsity team to keep our near-perfect record as well as helping my JV team qualify for state. Every year since that, I continue to improve and surprise more people being one of only three girls in the league. It is my determined nature and drive, that enable me to accomplish these things and continue to surpass expectations.
