My name is Alex Erdman. I'm a 2023 graduate of Dulaney High School in Maryland. I'm taking a gap year for the 2023-24 season to play ice hockey, and am a starting goalie for the 2023-24 19U AAA/Tier I Washington Pride out of Rockville, Maryland.
During my high school career I was the starting goalie on two teams - my club/travel team, the Philadelphia Little Flyers, and my state high school league team, the MSHL Northeastern team:
Little Flyers
My travel club was the Philadelphia Little Flyers 19U AA team for the 2022-23 season. Our team was 15-2-1, and individually I went 14-1-1, giving away only 15 goals over 16 games played. My season stats with the Little Flyers were 0.81 GAA with a 0.959 SV% and 7 shutouts.
This season we won the inaugural MidAtlantic Girls Showcase championship, the NGHL MLK championship, finished second in the 2022-23 Mid-Atlantic Women's Hockey Association (MAWHA) championship, and won the 2022-23 Atlantic District championship. We traveled to Anaheim, California for USA Hockey's National Championships in late March, going 2-1 in the first round and losing our quarterfinal game, with an overall finish of 6th place as a team. Among 21 goalies at Nationals, I finished 3rd overall in goals against (1.76 GAA) and 4th overall in saves (0.916 SV%).
I played on the 16U AA Little Flyers for the 2021-22 season (and for the 19U AA team the prior year). We won the 2021-2022 16U AA (Tier 2) Mid Atlantic Women's Hockey Association (MAWHA) Championship, and then moved on to win 2021-2022 USA Hockey Atlantic District Championship. Heading into Nationals as our district's #1 seed, I had not been scored on during the post season. We finished 9th at Nationals, and missed moving on to the second round in a 3 way tie by a single goal. I was 1-1 in the two games I played, with my only loss being a 0-1 nail-biter.
MSHL Northeastern Team
I also played in the Girls Maryland Student Hockey League on the Northeastern team, which finished second place in it's inaugural 2019-20 season, won the state Championship 2020-21, repeated the accomplishment winning the Girls MSHL Championship a second year in a row for 2021-22, and then returned to take the 2022-23 championship in double overtime for the third year in a row. I was also the only goalie selected to Maryland’s 2022 1st Team All-State and again for the Maryland 2023 1st Team All-State this past year.
I've also played for Dulaney High School's co-ed varsity team during my freshman year. Unfortunately, the team shut down in 2020 due to COVID-19, wasn't revived subsequently.
Prior to joining the Little Flyers, I played goalie for the Baltimore Youth Hockey Club (BYHC) on the Baltimore Stars since I was eleven years old. In 2019, our U14 team won the Pony Tail Tournament championship.
I also take regular private goalie lessons and attend on- and off-ice training sessions with former FPHL goalie Bryan Canter of Defending the Crease, and I began coaching with him last summer.
I'm looking for a small-to-medium sized school, preferably in a suburban or rural setting. I'd like one with a strong academic reputation, experience supporting scholar-athletes, and a beautiful campus that is welcoming. Most importantly, I'm looking for a competitive Division I (or strong DIII) ice hockey team made up of hard working but fun teammates who like to win, have a sense of humor and love playing ice hockey as much as I do. While I've applied to a number of schools with the intention to start in Fall of 2024, for the right school I would seriously consider waiting until fall 2025.
