I first stepped onto an ice rink when I was 3 years old. My dad had played hockey from his youth into college, and was determined to get at least me, or one of my two older sisters into it. After I had learned to skate, it took me only a year of youth hockey to realize that goalie was the position for me. In youth, we "pass the pads" since there was never a set goalie, and every time it was my turn, I excelled. Playing goalie was like no other position on the ice, I had so much control over the game. Whenever someone had the chance to get their team a point, I had the honor of being able to stand in their way. When I joined a local team called "Crimson" at the age of 9, I was finally able to be the official goalie of a team. After my first season, I knew deep down that goaltending was something I would never get tired of. 8 years later, and my feelings haven't changed one bit.
On the ice, I have strong skating skills, both in the crease and on the open ice. My eye-hand coordination and sense of timing have always been particularly sharp. I'm very situationally aware and have proven to know what the right move is, and when to execute it. I am a team player on and off the ice. I lead by example, encourage my teammates, and try to make sure that everybody is equally involved in every instance in both on-ice and off-ice situations. I have been elected as a captain for the upcoming 2023-2024 High School Varsity season and am thrilled to be given the opportunity to work on my leadership skills. I am a very coachable athlete who is always looking to improve my performance for the benefit of myself and my team. I will always put in my maximum amount of effort and never make excuses when things are asked of me.
During the off-season I am always training in one way or another. I participate in a club league, playing for the Bay State Breakers' U19 Tier 1 team. I attend every practice and skills opportunity that they offer weekly. I have involved myself in many years of training at MassCrease and Stop It Goaltending, goalie clinics near me. My club team also offers goalie skills once a week which I always attend. Outside of hockey, I train with a personal trainer to contribute to keeping myself in shape for the season. It is critical to me to capitalize on every opportunity for improvement when presented.
In school, I maintain an Honor Roll. I participate in my school's student council to try and improve the overall experience for my peers and the staff alike. I am engaged in my classes, punctual with my assignments, and always looking for opportunities from my teachers for extra credit. Outside of school and hockey, I work as a barista at a local Starbucks. Here, I actively improve my teamwork skills and increase my abilities to be independent and responsible. As for college, I want to attend a school where I can be a meaningful member of a team and find opportunity and encouragement in my classrooms. I am excited to step into college, and I am ready to give it my all!
