Ice Hockey has given me experiences and memories that I could not have otherwise dreamed of. I started playing ice hockey when I was four years old. Since I first stepped on the ice, I have aspired to play at the collegiate level. My name is Casey Horrigan, and my goal is to play competitive college hockey. I know that playing in college is a once in a lifetime opportunity that could change my whole life.
On the ice, I remain a strong presence in the crease. I maintain a calm demeanor and have developed a high hockey IQ; I understand and process advanced plays. Over my years of play, I have greatly improved technical aspects of play. Now I excel at puck tracking, smooth movements, and puck control. Additionally, I can stay focused--whether it is a game or practice, I give 110%. My quality of focus has helped define and quicken my reaction times on both my glove and blocker side. I work hard year round to learn and further develop my goaltender abilities.
As a teammate, I try to lead by example, while also encouraging my teammates. I am very coachable; I take advice as an opportunity to further improve my skills and knowledge. I strive to be one of the hardest working players--I will put all of my effort, and more-some at every given opportunity.
For the past two years, I have been the starting goaltender on the Keefe Tech High School boys hockey team. This year, I made the Worcester Senators U18 AA team. This is an accomplishment I am very proud of, as I am the first girl in the team's history. This summer, I was also given the opportunity to attend multiple camps and clinics throughout the summer. Outside of hockey, I have been a part of the Keefe Tech girl’s Softball team, for the past four years.
In the classroom, I hold a heavy workload, but through studying I have been able to maintain a high GPA and class standing. In addition, I have been a member of the National Honor Society since I was inducted my Sophomore year. I have become a role model in my school as a peer mentor.
In relation to my community, I am a proud member of the Civil Air Patrol. Additionally, I volunteer at Saint Bridget Elementary School during the school year. Also, I have several part time jobs within the community.
I want to attend a college where I can push myself in both the classroom and in the rink. As I go to a technical high school, I was given the opportunity to study a specific concentration. I currently study legal and protective services. My college academic goal is to take the knowledge and skills I have already learned and further expand them by studying in Criminology, Forensics, Psychology, or Criminal Justice. I am open to all options and, ultimately, want to find the right college at the highest level of competition possible. I hope to become a great role model to all my peers, in my community, and make both myself and my parents proud.
