I would like to compete against the best hockey players in college. I strive to contribute to a team with a positive attitude and bring my best effort every day to the rink. My coaches tell me that I am aggressive and relentless, and they have confidence I will lead our team by example. I like when my coach and my teammates rely on me to kill penalties and score on the power play. I take pride in being physical and be first on the forecheck to blow up the other team's breakout. I have been scoring often and in a lot of different ways. I never give up on the backcheck and I read plays very well to put myself in the best position to support my teammates.
I am a hard worker in both my schoolwork and athletics. In school, I find it very important not only to earn good grades but to contribute to my school community. In my freshman year at Valor Christian High School I was honored to be accepted in the Cum Laude Society and National Honor Society. I decided to take on the challenge to leave home to attend Brooks School in Massachusetts. I believe my independence and sense of responsibility have grown so far at Brooks. I have kept my “A” average at Brooks while being a school ambassador for prospective new families. I was selected to be a prefect in my house at Brooks and also my grade (or form) representative Alumni Ambassador.
I play three sports, volleyball, ice hockey, and crew at Brooks. I was named the captain for my varsity volleyball team and rowed my way to a varsity boat during my first year on the crew team. I used to compete as an Irish dancer, but I really like being on a team much more. I was also selected to the Collegiate Prospect Combine for the second time this year. We train and play with and against the best female, high school players in New England on Sundays during the Fall.
I really love to help coach and participate in Special Olympics with my little brother. He is an athlete with Special Olympics, and we get to ski, Irish dance and play just about every sport together. I love to watch his determination and the pure joy he has when he plays. I hope to someday be able to take on a greater role with Special Olympics.
I do not exactly know what I want to study in college yet. My mom is a schoolteacher and I love to see how she helps the kids in her classes. I am also becoming very interested in sports medicine and management. I look forward to speaking with coaches about opportunities to play college hockey.
