I initially started my hockey career as a young seven year old girl playing with all boys. I played with them until I was thirteen years old. It was a physical challenge to play with boys as a female, especially in Bantams with checking rules, but it taught me a lot about myself. It didn’t only allow me to grow as an athlete, but also made me an overall better person. It was hard to fit in on my team being the only girl and it was challenging at times, but I learned to create bonds with people I never would’ve expected.
Because of my physique, I had to learn to play a different way than the boys. It was hard for me to beat players using only my strength, so I learned to find ways to out work and out smart opponents. As I got older I had to work on becoming as strong as I could be and the work I put in the gym quickly showed on the ice. Because of this, I consider myself one of the stronger female hockey players among my girls team today. Because of my hockey background with the boys, I believe I could be a unique asset to your team!
