Hello! My name is Isabella Tenreiro and I'm currently a Junior in the class of 2023 at Austin Preparatory School in Reading, MA. Unlike most players, I haven't been playing soccer since a very young age, I only started around the age of 10, but my love for the sport is just the same as those who started young. As a kid I didn't take too much interest in sports, even though I participated in a lot of them. Most sports you can list, I've tried. From tennis and ballet, to gymnastics and swimming I didn't manage to discover soccer until the fourth grade. I vividly remember joining my town's soccer team just to stay occupied and immediately be fascinated by the sport. I loved being able to use qualities that came naturally to me. My speed, physical strength, and height gave me a step forward but as time went on it wasnt enough to keep up with the other girls on my club team. Still loving to play soccer, I decided that I was going to train as much as I needed to in order to exceed the level of the girls who have been playing way longer than me. Over time I started to really realize how much I improved. By the time I started my first year at Austin Prep in the 6th grade I had made the Junior Varsity team and was the first to do so in school history, Two years later I made Varsity in the eighth grade and have been on the team during the following years since. Being a part of a team at such a young age was a fantastic experience. I learned teamwork and came to understand how to form a routine and organize my day to day life. It has given me connections and relationships I can't compare and it drives me to do better in school and remember that my timeline may not be the same as many of the people around me but in the end what matters is who worked hard and who didn't. Soccer is something that has taught me drive and perseverance. It has shown me no goal is impossible with the correct mentality and with hard work. It has always been a secure aspect of my life and without it I wouldn't be the same person I am today.
