Mackenzi Goetz '24 Recruiting Profile

I am currently a Senior at John Glenn High School in Westland, Michigan.  I started playing hockey when I was five years old.  My uncle brought me some hockey equipment and I have been playing ever since.  You could say hockey runs in my family, I am one of 13 grandchildren and 11 of us play hockey.  I am the only one that is a goalie.  I have always wanted to be a goalie, but my mom did not want me to.  When our 12U spring team did not have a goalie, I talked my mom into letting me try it at practice.  So, she borrowed some equipment and let me try it, after practice coach told my mom well, we have our goalie she gets up faster than our current goalie.  I took part of the year off being goalie in my 2nd year as 12U.  It was during my 14U season that I found my passion for being a goalie.   I have found that same passion in what I want to do in life.  I would like to be a midwife and will be pursuing a degree in nursing.   I participated in the Michigan Meijer Games in the summer of 2021 and my team came in 3rd.  I have been fortunate to have two Tier III State Championships, one at 14U and the most recent at 19U.  In my past season of 2021/2022 I received a MVP puck during the Veteran’s Showcase weekend and we placed 2nd in our three tournaments.  Besides playing hockey, I am an active member in my church youth group, I help run the slide show during church service.  I love to draw, paint & read.
