My hockey career started in 2nd grade, my best friend played hockey so I wanted to play too. In the beginning I played because it was with my friends. As we got older we played against each other on different teams. Initially, I thought I was not going to have fun because I wasn’t with my best friend anymore, and that's when I knew I was in love with hockey. I didn't need to play with my best friend, I wanted to develop as an athlete.
Developing as an athlete took the ultimate turn after a season ending back injury last year. I was determined to get back on the ice. I spent time with a personal trainer, found extra ice time, and networked with athletes of all levels. Now I feel that I am stronger than ever, I skate faster than ever, and I have that drive that makes me want to compete more than ever. Networking with other athletes has helped me realize the opportunities that are available for me to continue this hockey career at a level I want.
Through the course of time, hockey has granted me many privileges that I am grateful for. This includes the obvious of playing for several great teams and traveling, but more importantly, it has helped me become a dedicated and determined athlete, friend, and student. I have learned the importance of life balance and time management always striving for improvement. The next phase of my journey is college hockey.
I am excited for college. As the 2nd oldest of 4 children, I am looking forward to being more independent. I have developed good study habits and currently maintain a 3.7 GPA. I am taking AP classes which will better prepare me for college level classes. My field of study is likely in the field of sports law. Considering these odd times of COVID, the need to do a post-grad year in order to accomplish my dreams of becoming a collegiate athlete is something I am willing to consider. When given the opportunity, I am happy to share more about myself.
