Hockey has been my greatest passion since first playing as a 5 year old. I learned to skate at 2 years old and started playing hockey at 5. For my first several years of club hockey, I played with an all boys travel team and I loved it! I loved the challenge of always having to prove myself. I thrived on knowing that I always had to prove that I actually belonged there playing with the boys. It pushed me to always give 100% and to never ease off giving it my all, and it helped me become a stronger, better and more confident player. I am now entering my fourth season playing with an all girls AAA team, and I am excited about continuing to learn and grow in different ways by being on an all female team.
At this point in my life, my two main goals are to pursue a degree in science/technology/engineering and to play women's hockey at the collegiate level. Some of my strongest assets are: 1) I am a very hard worker, I have a strong work ethic and am very committed to hockey and my academics; 2) I am absolutely crazy about playing hockey and one of my dreams is to play college hockey; 3) I set very high standards for myself, whether it is related to school, sports or any other endeavor; 4) I greatly value being a true team player and working together with my teammates for the success of the whole team and; 5) my coaches and teachers regularly say I have a great work ethic and that they can count on me to approach things with a positive, "can-do" attitude.
I love sports and just about anything that involves physical activity. In addition to playing organized team/school sports like hockey, soccer and tennis, I love many other sports that I do for fun and recreation--water skiing, surfing, wake-boarding, scuba diving, snow skiing, and snow boarding . As far as other activities and interests, I enjoy listening to and playing music-I have been playing the piano since I was 7; I like to read; I love arts and crafts, I love being and doing anything outside, and my favorite subjects in school are science and art. I love to travel and have been lucky enough to be able to travel a good amount with my parents. I love learning about other countries and cultures. Travelling to Hawaii, Fiji and Thailand are just a couple of places on my bucket list!
I have earned a number of awards and distinctions that attest to my abilities and character. As far as academic and character awards, I have been a National Honor Student and International Baccalaureate candidate for three years and I currently have a 3.9 grade point average. I am currently enrolled in honors or AP classes in Math, Science and English this year in High School. I was a district finalist two years in a row for a National History Day Exhibit Event. I have received an academic athlete award every year since middle school. I am an Optimist Award recipient, a two time Titan Award recipient and a one time Principal's Award recipient. As far as athletic distinctions, in 2011, I received the Most Valuable Player Award as the only girl on my hockey team. I was selected to play in the All Stars Game at the Rush Showcase in 2014. In 2016-17, I received the Play Maker of the Year Award for the Meijer AAA U14 girls team, and I was selected to participate in the MidAm Regional National Player Development Camp in 2017. Additionally, after attending their summer camp, I was invited by Jesse Driscoll to attend NAHA with an offer of a partial scholarship. Finally, my team won the State championship in 2019, securing us a spot to play in the National Championships in California last April.
I hope this personal statement gives you a better picture of the type of athlete, student and person I am. I believe all of these qualities and interests taken together would make me a valuable candidate for any college looking for a dedicated, hard working and well-rounded recruit. To play hockey in college would be one of my biggest dreams come true! Thank you for looking at my profile!
