My name is Emma Erickson I've been playing hockey since I was 5. As I was getting older I watched my teammates/friends go on to play division three, some even division one hockey. Watching them be able to do this made me realize anything is possible as long as you put in the time and work to get what you want. Coming from a little town with very few girls has really taught me how to work hard for what you want and how to really play as a team. As the years have gone on your team has gotten smaller and it's taught me that winning isn't everything. It also has taught me the scoreboard doesn't show the true winners. The mistakes I make in the games don't define how I play, I grow and learn how to become a better player. I will always put 100% into practices, dry land, and games.
As I was growing up my sister was my role model in hockey and I realize the effect it had on me, how it pushed me to be better and train harder. This all made me realize how important it is to me a role model to the younger girls and to work with them to be the best player they can be.
During the summers I have helped coached the younger kids during our summer camps. Teaching them how to skate and to understand them came made such an impact on my role in the game and how important the sport is to me. I want to play in college and after I hope to become a coach to teach kids and help them love the game the way I do.
I plan to continue my hockey career in college, learn from others and improve in the game. I know it won't be easy but I am ready for the challenge and play with girls who love the game just as much as I do.
