Hi, my name is Jordan Millam and I am 17 years old. I am currently a senior at Mora HS and a sophomore at Anoka Ramsey Community College. Being at the top of my class throughout my first two years of high school provided me with an opportunity to do Post Secondary Enrollment (PSEO). It has allowed me to enjoy a full time college experience while fulfilling my high school graduation requirements with the goal in mind of attaining a two year associates degree by the end of my senior year. I have been fortunate to play for a program that emphasizes academic achievement, and as a result has maintained the status of All Conference Academic since before I joined the team.
One of the biggest challenges that I faced throughout my hockey career was starting my freshman year at a new school. Unfortunately, my hometown doesn’t have a hockey team, and the nearest program wasn’t a good fit for me. My parents supported my decision to open enroll in a program 30 miles away from home. This allowed me to continue to play with the teammates that I had grown up with. I knew that it would be tough getting to school and practice everyday because it meant that my parents would spend well over 3 hours a day on the road to support my decision. Hockey was important to them because it was important to me. Throughout my freshman year I adapted to the new school and team while making friends easily. I quickly earned the starting Varsity position while edging out two seasoned goalies for the top spot. I consider myself coachable and take all advice to heart. I never fail to try my best and have learned to take advantage of opportunities to better myself and my game. I always strive to be a leader and in 2020 I was named as a captain for the upcoming season, as well as Mississippi 8 Conference Goalie of the Year.
I would like to find a college that fits both my academic and athletic lifestyles. I am looking forward to making new friends and memories. I can’t wait to find a new team to call my family while I’m away from home. Thank you for your consideration.
