My name is Mabel Gerard and I just completed my junior season with the Halifax Western Capitals, playing in the Maritime Major U18 Hockey League (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI). I graduate from Sacred Heart School of Halifax in June 2024. I am interested in pursuing a mathematics or actuarial related degree in university, and am hoping to continue my hockey journey at the university level in the fall of 2024.
As a student I placed first in my class in grade 10 at a competitive academic private school, and continue to have strong grades in grade 11. I also was elected to student council in grade 11 as our school’s secretary, and am generally highly involved in the school and leadership activities.
My playing style is that of a playmaker and puck manager, using my edges and body position to protect pucks, read what is happening around me and create plays. I am a left shot and am equally comfortable playing left or right wing. I am difficult to handle down low and on the wall. I have strong hockey IQ, and good hands that help me execute plays at a high level all over the ice. These attributes help me be a great linemate and I am proud that I can play well with a variety of different types of players.
During this past season, I was the leading “grade 11 year” goal scorer in the Maritime Major U18 Hockey League and the second leading “grade 11 year” point getter in our league. I tallied 13 goals and 9 assists for 22 points in a 24 game league schedule. My stats are available at my league web site (https://mmfhl.ca). Further, InStat (https://hockey.instatscout.com) covered our league and other games which provides additional data and video footage.
I was a late grower and am now over 5 foot 10 and 145 pounds. My length and strength further helps me play my style of game and I am continuing to work on getting stronger and adding more power to up my advantage in this area. In terms of attitude and leadership my coaches named me an assistant captain this year as a sophomore, and I look forward to continuing with a strong leadership role next season.
I grew up a multi sport athlete and believe strongly in sport for life. I qualified for and attended three Canadian national tennis championships. I also played high level competitive soccer until age 15. At my school - I play varsity volleyball and basketball and I was MVP of the varsity badminton team last year. These activities have developed me athletically including my hands, understanding of tactics and compete level.
I look forward to exploring opportunities to be a part of a great school and hockey program!
