Sophia Banda '24 Recruiting Profile

Hello, my name is Sophia Banda; thank you for taking the time to observe my profile. I have a constant desire to reach the top of my abilities when it comes to any situation on and off the ice. I want every coach to know that I always bring 110% effort. I have a strong ability to contain my ice on the offensive blueline, creating scoring opportunities with my hard and leveled slapshot. I have been described as passionate, composed, hard working, and a coachable hockey player. I play a good leadership role on and off the ice. I constantly strive for my best when on the ice and in the weight room.

As a defenceman I am strong around my net keeping the opponents away from my goaltender, limiting their scoring chances. As I put a lot of work into hockey, I also know it is incredibly important that I continue to achieve high marks in my classes. Staying up to date with all assignments and studying for tests is important. I have achieved 90% average the past two years and only strive for more.

I had moved away from home at age fourteen to attend Athol Murray College of Notre Dame as I knew it was the best opportunity for me to grow not only as a hockey player, but as a student and person. My peers and teachers around me at Notre Dame have expressed that I am a mature and determined person and student. I have had great experiences at Notre Dame, one of them was attending the Esso Cup! I had an amazing experience playing against the toughest teams in Canada. This level of competition made me realize how much I desire to play hockey at the highest level in college.
