I was twelve the first time I picked up a stick but I knew I had found the one sport I loved. The year after my first season, I made it onto a rep team. I was considerably less skilled than the other girls, but joining competitive hockey that year taught me to love being challenged. I learned how to overcome difficulties with persistent work ethic and drive to improve as a player. Hockey taught me to advocate for myself, continue to break out of my shell, and lead by example. I also learned how much I love being part of a team and how sacrifices create strong bonds between us. It brings me joy to help out my teammates on and off the ice. I enjoy filling team water bottles to connect with my team. I try to always carry this sense of purpose and service out onto the ice.
Academically, I continue to push myself to take high-level classes. Traveling over the past three seasons taught me time management and organization skills, because I live in the United States and play in a Canadian league. I have a passion for military history, as well as drawing, photography, and filmmaking. I am thinking of making historical documentaries. My dream is to pursue a program that will help me achieve my academic goals and be a good fit for me athletically. I would love to play hockey at the college level because I love the sport and it helps me grow as a person.
