My name is Cameron Carmody and I am currently a sophomore at Eau Claire Memorial High school in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. I come from a family of seven. My identical twin sister, an older brother, and another set of older identical twin sisters. It has been unique and beneficial to have an equally competitive sister to grow up with and share our athletic and academics together. I have been in athletics since age four. I have excelled at hockey, soccer, and tennis and currently play varsity for all three sports at our class A school. Of these, I find hockey the most inspirational to me.
One experience that stands out was playing hockey for Team Wisconsin U14 and my sister and I were noticed by the Rush Hockey Showcase team and we were asked to participate in Toronto for the showcase. This was a tremendous experience and introduced me to a very competitive level of hockey that I thrive on. I met my current AAA tier 1 coach and team, Minnesota Revolution through this exposure and have played for them during the off season ever since. At age 15 we were asked to play up with the U19’s. We have played U19 hockey throughout Canada and the U.S. against D1 and D3 commits ever since, which has been an invaluable experience.
Playing on team sports including doubles tennis has taught me the value of a group working together to achieve a common goal. I have always put the team first before myself. My coaches have put me in different positions in order for the team to win and I have always readily and gladly accepted this.
I am different from others in that I grew up playing in the boys youth league. From mini mite through bantam, I always played on the boys top tier team. I was instrumental in helping us win state at the peewee level. My character is work hard and even harder when no one is looking. This year as a sophomore on our varsity tennis team the team voted my twin sister and I for the “hustle award.” My dad was in the military and has always preached “actions speak louder than words.” I carry myself quietly but confidently.
One of my most enjoyable things I do throughout the year is teaching our communities youth the ability to skate and the fundamentals of hockey. Through this I have learned leadership, patience, and the grateful feeling of giving.
My other interests besides athletics is scholastic. I have always been an A student. I love to read and enjoy the sciences. I currently have a 3.8 GPA with AP curriculum. I also enjoy music and play percussion in our high school band. My aspirations are to go to an academic center with the goals to become an M.D. someday. My dad is a cardiac surgeon for the Mayo Clinic and I have had the privilege to shadow him and his team to experience medicine first hand. Interestingly, his team functions in a way similar to athletic teams in that everyone plays an important part.
To date, with these past experiences, I feel I am well rounded and prepared for the next level. I hope to someday be able to play collegiate hockey for you and your team.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me!
