Hello! My name is Mariah Querequincia and I am currently a senior at Chaparral High school located in Temecula, California. I have played lacrosse since middle school, and since then I had a love for the sport.
Unfortunately, during my freshman soccer season I tore both my ACL and meniscus on my right knee. The surgery thereafter resulted in a pause to my lacrosse career as it had taken months to be able to run, yet alone walk in my condition.
As my physical abilities have been limited, I turned to other things that bloomed into hobbies I genuinely enjoyed. I had a passion for playing the ukulele so I created the first Ukulele Club at my high school which I currently preside in. I am also Senior Class President for my class of 700 students, as I have always been known for my outgoing personality and creating an inclusive environment for everyone. Another extracurricular activity I actively participate in is my high school show choir.
Although I created other hobbies and focused strongly on academics, the loss I felt from having a whole lacrosse season taken away me only made me realize how much I had taken for granted. When I returned to playing lacrosse my sophomore year, I regained a piece of me that was missing. Playing the sport that I love with friends who have always supported me, I knew wherever I was with my lacrosse team was where I belonged.
During those months of rehabilitation and gaining back my strength, I created a high respect for the support physical therapy provided. While attending college, I desire to study in a pre-physical therapy field such as Exercise Science or Kinesiology and further extend my education to attain a Doctorate in Physical Therapy.
