Stepping out on the field and representing a team, community, and a family takes a lot of responsibility. The most important part of the game is the team’s attitude and spirit. Before games, I have to go in with the confidence that I’m not going to let any balls pass me. More often than not though, that is not the case. It is inevitable for mistakes to happen. Whether it is just a bad day or the team I am up against is really good, I still have to be positive and not let the mistakes get to me. As the goalkeeper, my attitude has a major influence on how my team plays. Being apart of a team means that you are there for your teammates when they need you, and vise versa. It is my job to make sure to make sure that every person on my team gets recognition for what they accomplish on the field. Even if somebody messes up a play, I always cheer them on with some uplifting words of advice. Once you make the choice to join a team, you not only commit to the sport, but you commit to every other person on that team as well as everybody you are representing.
Playing lacrosse and being apart of a team has taught me leadership skills and helped me realize what kind of person I am. I am the kind of person that would do anything for the people that I care about and will not stop until I achieve what I planned to. The urge to help people comes natural to me, and lacrosse is an outlet where I get to practice it.
After I graduate high school, I plan to join the Air Force ROTC program and get my bachelor's degree in nursing. Being in the military means being apart of a team, and protecting others that can not do so themselves. By gaining all of the important team and communication skills through lacrosse, I can apply them to the military and be apart of something bigger than myself. That is the ultimate goal: to be apart of something greater and be the change that the world needs. Life is not about waiting for the chance to come, it is about going after opportunities and being the change you want to see in the world.
