My name is Isabella McCarthy and I am a starting varsity goalie in the class of 2020. I have been playing lacrosse since 3rd grade and I fell in love when I picked up the stick. I moved to Australia in the middle of freshman year and returned at the beginning of my junior year and picked up lacrosse right where I left it. It was intimidating coming back after a two-year break because of the huge increase in skill with my teammates, but after a few games and practices, I picked it back up, gained the starting varsity goalie title after one game in season. My mom (Danielle McCarthy) is a big influencer in my athletic and academic career as she pushed me to do my very best at all time. My grandfather (Rick McCarthy) is in the lacrosse hall of fame and suggested I try lacrosse in 3rd grade because at the time I wasn't playing a spring sport. Since then I haven't stopped playing (other than 1 and a half years in Australia). Through playing lacrosse, I learned so much about myself, I found leadership as well as endurance that I have not seen in any other sport. Lacrosse has allowed me to be good at something that not everyone else was good at, especially being a goalie, it allowed me to stand out. Being a goalie allows me to be unique on and off the field considering there is only one of my position on each team.
