My name is Kelsey and I am a dedicated multi-sport student athlete. I set high standards for myself both in the classroom and on the playing field. I am relatively new to lacrosse but the game is a huge driving force in my life. My family and I have had to sacrifice a lot for the opportunity to compete in lacrosse. I don’t take the opportunity to play for granted and I am determined to excel and take advantage of every minute I get to be on the field. 2 years ago, I was diagnosed with Type I diabetes. It was a scary time in my life. It has been a battle but has also given me purpose. Diabetes adds an extra layer of complexity to every aspect of life, but excelling in athletics with diabetes requires constant focus and dedication. Learning to manage type 1 diabetes while competing in sports has been a long process full of trials and disappointment. Though I still have a lot to learn, I have found my way through many of the roadblocks I faced and have found a way to succeed. This has become my purpose. I want to play lacrosse at the highest level possible while earning a degree in a health care profession from a great school that will allow me to teach and encourage other young type 1 diabetic athletes and make it easier for them to achieve their goals.
