From a very young age, I have always been a confident, independent, social person. As a child, I was exposed to situations that pushed me to acquire interpersonal skills. Coming from a small school on Cape Cod truly allows these traits to shine through. I have also moved multiple times, each of which has pushed me to put these skills to use. As a young girl, I also possessed a great love of athletics that has stuck with me to this day. As a three-sport athlete involved with the varsity sailing, varsity soccer, and varsity lacrosse teams, I feel as if I am truly dedicated to athletics and to the teams that I am on. Being the captain of the varsity lacrosse team this year, I feel as if my strong leadership qualities translate onto the lacrosse field.
When I lived in Texas, the girl's lacrosse coach held a clinic to teach girls the game of lacrosse, and I have been in love with the sport ever since. Through the years that I have played lacrosse, I have learned that I am a leader, a good teammate, and a positive, confident athlete who knows how to manage time wisely. These traits translate onto the field every day when it comes to teaching the younger girls or simply running plays in games.
Over the course of the past two years, I have had two reconstructive shoulder surgeries within six months of each other due to sports-related injuries. Instead of giving up on sports altogether, I persevered and made it through both surgeries and recoveries. Although this was a challenge for me, I overcame this obstacle and found the good within it. My surgeries sparked an interest in pursuing a career in orthopedic surgery. Freshman year, I did an internship with my surgeon, during which I observed surgeries and learned more about a career as a physician. Throughout it all, I remained optimistic and saw the good in a tough situation; this is something that I hold true to and practice daily.
Throughout high school, I would like to obtain high honors or honors every year and continue to take honors and AP classes. In college, I would like to be a true student-athlete and focus on a career in medicine. I am interested in a smaller school not too far from home. It is also a goal of mine to attend medical school after college, and hopefully, pursue a career as an orthopedic surgeon.
