As a child I was diagnosed with dyslexia. Dyslexia is a disorder that makes it very difficult to recognize certain words or letters. In other words I had a hard time reading and writing. I also struggled with my working memory in subjects such as math. In order to reach the ideal reading level for my age, I had to work harder than most. I completed a program called Wilson. This program took me three long years to conquer. I worked at it every day from the ages of seven to ten. Once I completed the program I read two grade levels ahead and had all A's.
Now, in high school my work ethic that I gained through my struggles with dyslexia, has reached new heights. My grades are very strong and my teacher tell me I am a pleasure to have in class. Furthermore I play 3 sports a year and have learned how to manage my time in all aspects of my life.
During each sports season I am completely committed to the team and the collective goal. I often come early to each practice and stay after no matter what sport. I build strong and long lasting relationships with all three teams, and would not change any of my experiences for anything.
Lacrosse has been a light in my life. I started my freshmen year with hopes to be a goal scorer. I was quickly recruited by my coach for the goalie position. I was reluctant to try it at first. However as I started to improve, it became very evident that I was meant to be a goalie. Of course I have had some obstacles that I needed to overcome. For example the mental aspect of the position really got to me at first. When I failed to save a goal or I turned over the ball with a clear, I beat my self up. But as my understanding of the position and the game progressed I became more mentally strong.
I have made a lot of progress in the 3 years I have been playing. I constantly am looking to get better and improve my technique. I often find myself loosing hour online and in books researching my position and the game of lacrosse. My long term goal of course is to play in college, and I am willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish my goal.
