The road to lacrosse started with the boys team. My club did not offer a girl’s team, and after watching my brother play, I finally convinced my parents to let me play with the boys. I played two years on the boy's team, which was not always easy, as many teams had issues with a female playing with the boys. The summer going into my freshman year of high school, I was able to focus on women’s lacrosse, playing league throughout the year, and attending clinics/camps, until the high school team started up. This will be the first year for Edgewood High School to have a women’s team, and I am excited to be a part of it! I am lucky enough to play with the same club with my brother, which allows my mom to travel with both of us, now.
Lacrosse is not the only extracurricular activity I am involved in. I have played volleyball, basketball, and track and field. For the last seven years, I have been in the marching band, starting in sixth grade, and currently a Drum Major. I volunteer with early intervention at the Warren County Board of Developmental Disabilities, and have volunteered for the Honor Flight, church nursery, and vacation Bible school. At school, I am a member of the Chick-Fil-A Leadership Academy, ASL club, yearbook, Young Life, and YOU club. I love school and learning, and hope to use all of the skills learned, this far, as a primary intervention specialist with ASL minor. I am employed part-time at Kings Island, in the Entertainment Department, while the park is open. I accomplish this all and retain a 4.0 GPA.
Playing sports, and being involved in clubs and volunteering, as well as working, I have learned life skills, such as: leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship, organizational and multitasking, perseverance, and accountability. These skills will assist me throughout life. I believe everyone has a path to follow. You have to work hard to reach your goals, and succeed in life, so you can also enjoy life. Learning the balance between work and fun can be challenging, but feasible, it takes skills, and sometimes a lot of praying.
