Ever since I was a little girl, my family has instilled in me values that have carried me and will carry me throughout life. This has set the foundation for achieving my goals. They have always been an example of working hard to achieve your goals, accept that with success comes some failures, and if you truly want something, never give up.
I have a very strong family and friend foundation. This begins with my parents and sister, as well as my close relationship with my grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. My parents very work hard every day to make sure my sister and I are afforded opportunities to help our future successes. This drive was instilled in them by their parents and I hope to do the same for my own family one day. The most important traits they have taught my sister and I are responsibility, determination, positivity, and time management/organization. This has become so important to me as I juggle school, lacrosse, work, and volunteering. Some of my best friends are on the lacrosse field and they continue to make me a better person through friendship, support and fun.
My interest in lacrosse started in 6th grade after I attended a few of my older sister’s games. I was nervous to give it a try but saw how much fun she was having on the field and with her teammates. Playing youth basketball and being part of team really made me want to try a sport again.
I have learned a lot about myself through playing lacrosse the past six years, especially overcoming fears and injuries, being a leader and a good teammate. When I initially started playing lacrosse, I was young and confident, but as I started playing with the older more experienced girls, intimidation set in and I started to become less of a presence on the field for fear I would make mistakes and I did not want to disappoint my teammates. I worked hard to get stronger and more skilled and my confidence grew again. I am no longer afraid to be a presence on the field and work hard to be the best team player I can be. My focus every game is always have constant field awareness, read people’s body language and to help my team play the best game every time. I have also had to deal with some injuries that although bothersome on the field, were resolved with exercise and physical therapy. This is still something that I continue to work on to stay strong physically. Overall, I have learned that perseverance leads to success.
My academic goals in high school are to continually maintain high honor roll status while participating in extracurricular activities such as school clubs (Student Council and Key Club) and both high school and club lacrosse teams. In addition, I continue to strengthen my time management skills by working part-time as a hostess. One of my favorite extracurricular activities, however, is volunteering as a youth lacrosse mentor and coach. I love sharing my love of the game with the young players as well as teaching them leadership, confidence, and teamwork. I love watching their confidence bloom on the field.
Through my sports injuries and rehabilitation, I have truly taken in an interest in physical therapy and my future goal is to attend college to major in this field so I can earn a degree and help others recover and grow stronger like I have and continue to do.
