Personal Statement

When it comes to who I am, lacrosse and school are major aspects that contribute to me as a person. I first became interested in lacrosse in the 6th grade. I had played almost all girls sports that one can think of, and none of them seemed to be the right fit for me. Once I started to play, coaches and peers said that I had caught on quicker than they expected, and with that being said, I made the D1 North Kingstown Girls Lacrosse recreational league that year. Through playing this sport for almost 5 years, I had learned a lot about the game, but even more about myself. In a way, lacrosse brought me out of my shell. I have noticed I have became more of a leader and motivational teammate to my peers. If something goes wrong, with no doubt, I am still able to keep everybody motivated to play better and harder. I am definitely not shy and I am willing to help form a more personal bond between teammates in order to improve the way we play on the field together. My freshman year, I had only made the junior varsity team, but I am extremely determined this year to make my way up to varsity. I have been working so hard towards that goal, for I have been signing up for clinics every season since the last lacrosse season. I try and play lacrosse about 1-2 times a week to keep my skills nice and sharp for tryouts.

Academically, my goals are to finish High School with honors or AP classes and continue to receive As and Bs until I graduate. I also hope to become more involved with school events and clubs. By senior year, I hope to know what college I will be attending and what career I want to pursue, and maybe even do an internship or take some college courses where they allow it. Right now, I am trying to enroll into High School classes that I think will benefit my education in the future. Since I want to pursue a career in the medical field, I signed up for Human Anatomy and Physiology Honors and Chemistry. My goals for college are to maintain my well-rounded attributes when it comes to sports and school, because both of those things are very important to me. I want to minimize distractions so I can get to where I want to go with a minimal amount of obstacles. Although I would rather stay on the east coast, I would not mind moving a little while away from my family so I can really find who I am without their guidance.

I believe that I have had many obstacles in the past that have attempted to withhold me from where I am now.  I have probably been playing lacrosse the least amount of years compared to my teammates, which at first, set a huge barrier between us because I did not know anyone on the team nor did I know how to play the game. But, after a year or two I was able to really find who I was as an athlete and as a team player. Now I am the one who is welcoming newcomers onto the team and making them feel like they are a part of something. Academically, I have also had obstacles standing in my way, but I have been able to leave those behind and keep on learning. The transition from Freshman to Sophomore year was one of the hardest obstacles I've had; The teachers were more demanding, the classes were more challenging, and grading was more rigorous.  It was hard for me to get the grades I wished to, but eventually that became the least of my worries, and now I am maintaining all As and Bs and I am afflicted with less stress .

Some other things that I think should be known about me are that I have extremely well perseverance when it comes to school and sports, along with a good work-ethic (I have a part-time job on the side as well) . I also can be very outgoing and friendly to anybody I meet, for I am definitely a people person. Others say I am easy to talk to about almost anything. I am quick to adapt to new situations and environments well, which can apply directly to the game of lacrosse. And lastly, I am a very quick learner and I can take instruction quite efficiently both academically and athletically. With all of these qualities which I possess and will continue to pursue, I believe that I have what it takes to become a college athlete and be a beneficial member to any women's team.
