Personal Statement

Playing lacrosse means confidence to me. Working hard to be successful is my way of life.  I was diagnosed in early elementary school with dyslexia. I didn't always understand what that meant except for school has been difficult for me and at times uncomfortable and embarrassing.  I learned to work harder than most at school.   Athletics has always been an escape for me for which I am comfortable, confident, and successful.   I started my sports career in early elementary school with softball, basketball, and karate.  I achieved my Jr. Black Belt at age of 9.  Lacrosse is fairly new to our area.  I started 7 years ago with the youth program and immediately fell in love and seemed to be great at it.

I continued playing youth town lacrosse for 4 years and then tried out for a local travel club lacrosse team in 8th grade (CT-Shoreline Sharks).  This was the best decision I made.  No one in my town had played travel lax as it wasn't available.  I soon became part of team where most were of the same competitive level with a former D1 college lax player as a coach.  The drills, skills practice, and competition of the tournaments allowed me to rise above  the rest.  I tried out for my D2 RI High School Lacrosse (Westerly High School) and scored the 1 spot that was available.  Attack.  Previously, I had mostly played mid field.  This was new to me but that was what my team needed and I had a successful Varsity Freshman D2 year.  I started and played every minute of every game including the championship game.  We did lose but I personally had a good game with 2 goals/2 assists/ turnovers and great field awareness.  I feel that is one of my strengths. I ended my freshman season with 31 goals and just as many assists and was named RIIL Rookie of the Year.  The weird part was that I playing attack vs mid field.   With the more experience I have, I am able to play with my head up and see the field.  I used to focus on scoring goals and now I realize that making plays happen, creating space, movement without the ball, and assisting others makes me a better  player.

CoVid 19 has robbed my of my sophomore high school season but I thankfully got a lot of tournaments, practice, play dates, in the summer and fall.  This is tough for me as I had great plans to improve stats and experience in the spring season.    I have always wanted to go south (N/S Carolina, Florida, Delaware, Maryland) for college  but am willing to look at any school that will be a good fit academically and possible lacrosse  fit as well..

I am hoping to play competitive lacrosse in college but need  to connect with coaches/ colleges to discuss learning opportunities or possible accommodations for my learning disorder.   If you met me, you would have no idea that I even struggle with this issue.  I am looking for the chance to go to college, find the tools to be academically accepted, and play my favorite sport- Lacrosse.     My test scores are not like most. Standardized testing is my most frustrating struggle.

Words over the years used to describe me playing lacrosse: tough, aggressive, strong, fierce, determined, coachable, competitive, and team player.   I know I have untapped potential and hoping with the right program to show it. I feel with the right fit coaching and teammates that I will  be an asset to any team as I am versatile as I have experience with being a middle and attack.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
