My name is Taleah Fisher, I am 17 years old, and in my fifth year of playing box lacrosse. I live in a city called Regina which is in Saskatchewan, Canada. I am the oldest of two kids and I am a role model to my younger sister. I am in grade 11 and attend Archbishop M.C. O'Neill Catholic Highschool. I learned the sport of lacrosse from watching my older cousin playing and thought that the sport looked very fun and interesting to play. When I was told that there was a come try session being held, my sister and I decided to try it out. Once the session was done and I got the hang of it, I told my parents that I wanted to play, and they signed me up right there. It was a great decision because I ended up enjoying the game and the opportunities it brings. It's the first thing I tell people about myself because I think that it's cool that I'm a women box lacrosse player.
I began playing in 2019 with the Queen City Minor Box Lacrosse league and went on to play Co-ed and I still do to this day. At one point I ended up being the only female on an all-boys team. I was able to have the opportunity to play all-girls for U18 Team Saskatchewan in the 2022 Canada Summer Games and competed for a week against some tough teams. I went on to play in Phoenix for the USBOXLA Winter Nationals with Team Sask and we ended up placing 4th. I then had the chance to compete in my home city, Regina, SK with Team Sask for the 2023 Canadian Box Lacrosse Nationals and we went on to place 4th out of the 8 teams that were competing.
I have not had a lot of opportunities to play women’s field like I have playing box. I have attended camps and even went to a try out for it, but we did not have a lot of players, so ultimately the team didn’t happen. While in Phoenix, I had the opportunity to try out a Sixes session held at ASU where I learned more about the sport and how it is played. During November 2023, i joined a women’s development camp where it can help me further my skills and they started holding women’s field practices which have been helping me to not only further my skills but also my understanding in this sport.
I enjoy spending time with my family and having fun. I like to spend time camping and enjoying the time out in the sun and going tubing with my friends during the summer. In the winter, I spend it playing ringette, a sport I've been very passionate about for almost a decade. I like to give back to my community, whether that be volunteering for tournaments, helping with come try sessions, and coaching. I am a coach for both ringette and lacrosse. Coaching is something i am passionate about because I like to teach little kids the sports that i love so that maybe one day, they’ll love it too. I was able to help coach the Queens, an all-girls team here in Regina, and be a role model for those young girls to look up to.
I am looking forward to strengthen my knowledge and skills of this sport and playing it at a college level. Making new friends and creating new experience with others and creating memories to have for a lifetime.
