Sports have been a large part of my life ever since I was 4. I played soccer on a travel team until I was 12. I also played field hockey. I first played lacrosse when I was 11 for my middle school team. I played in a few lacrosse games and knew I loved the sport. I always wanted to go to lacrosse practice and play games to get better. Lacrosse combines the skills needed for many sports into one. In basketball and football size is very important. In lacrosse when you are small you can dodge easier and be quick and swift. I was the smallest, yet one of the fiercest on my first lacrosse team. My mom says I am still the fiercest, but not the smallest.
After playing my first season of lacrosse I gave up the chance to travel to Spain to play soccer and played for the Cavalier Lacrosse Club. In 8th grade I made my high school junior varsity team and was voted a team captain. After a successful first high school year I tried out for the travel team in Richmond, Yellow Jackets South. I made the team and continue to grow in my knowledge and skill. My freshman year of high school, I made the varsity lacrosse team. Unfortunately most of our season was cancelled due to COVID. I did play safely all summer long with my Yellow Jackets South Team and I am looking forward to our Fall tournaments.
I really love lacrosse because it is a team sport that can’t be a one person show. You have to work together as a team. Also, lacrosse has allowed me to meet new people that have become my closest friends. When I started playing lacrosse I played multiple positions. I quickly found a love for playing defense. For my JV team we had a lot of people on our team that were learning. I had been in their shoes before and I knew how hard it was to pick up the game. I became a leader on defense, playing both defense and defensive midfield, and helped my teammates learn how to play. I found my voice and realized that I love to help others and be a role model and leader for them.
In my first varsity game I started at attack, but shifted to midfield, and defense. I really enjoyed playing every position, as I really just want to play! Also, while I love defense and it’s my main position, I will step up and play wherever my coach and team need me.
I am a determined person and I give everything 110%. I am a good student as well. I want to play in college because I love the game and love being a part of a team. I also always love a challenge and am ready to go all in to achieve my goal.
