Personal Statement

Ever since I started coxing in 2022, I have fallen in love with this sport. I can't convey how important it is to me, or how much it has become apart of my life. When I first began to cox in 8th grade, I struggled to understand who I was as a person. I was quiet, timid, and frankly, overwhelmed. In the past 2 years, I have grown so much and developed my voice not only as a coxswain, but as an individual. Through this sport, I have learned discipline, commitment, and time management. I have become more confident, more of a leader than I was before I began coxing.

I've had some very successful seasons so far, coxing two MAC boats to championships at USRowing Youth Nationals: Our U16 quad in 2023 and U16 eight in 2024. I've found that I love this sport and couldn't imagine my life without it. I would love the opportunity to further my coxing career in college, and it's my goal to keep competing for as long as I can and to the highest level I can. I want to continue taking my coxing to the next level, and I know I'm prepared and driven enough to do it.

Events

  • Camp/Event
  • Mary Whipple's 9th Seat Coxswain Camp
  • 7/08/24 to 7/12/24
  • This summer, I attended Mary Whipple's 9th Seat camp at Conibear Shellhouse. I learned a lot from coxswains all over the country, through sharing our recordings and getting hands-on rowing experience. As I hadn't had many chances to row before, I think the opportunity definitely provided me with a better technical comprehension and a more clarified understanding of what rowers want to hear in the boat. In addition, Mary Whipple taught me a lot about race structure, specifically the importance of prepping and executing moves and how to remain composed through the first 500 meters. I'm excited to start applying everything I've learned when the season starts again!
  • Camp/Event
  • Youth National Championships 2024
  • 6/06/24 to 6/09/24
  • An extremely successful end to the season: In our U16 eight, we started off the weekend by placing first at time trials with a new PR, a time of 6:50. We went on to win our semi by 6 seconds and finished off finals with a narrow 1 second lead, earning MAC's second national championship in the past 2 years. As a crew who consistently placed second earlier in the season, winning gold at nationals was a testament to how much time and devotion we've put in to get where we are. It was an honor to race against the best crews in the nation and I'm incredibly excited to enter my U17 season.
  • Camp/Event
  • MAC Banquet 2024
  • 5/19/24 to 5/19/24
  • At this year's banquet, my U16 eight was recognized as the 2023-2024 Crew of the Year after the amazing season we had! I was also the only women's team cox to receive MAC's Golden Arrow Award, in recognition of my contributions as a coxswain.
  • Camp/Event
  • Southwest Youth Championships 2024
  • 5/03/24 to 5/05/24
  • I coxed MAC's U16 eight and U16 quad, both of which earned silver at regionals. Such a special experience in both boats: In the eight, putting down faster times than teams we had previously been beaten by. In the quad, starting as one of the last off the line and walking through crews to achieve a second place finish. Great way to end my last race in a quad, and goes to show just how tenacious our team is. Go MAC!
  • Camp/Event
  • Youth National Championships 2023
  • 6/08/23 to 6/11/23
  • My first time at nationals was such an amazing experience and a great way to end my U15 season. Our U16 coxed quad earned a national championship, becoming only the 4th crew in MAC history and the first since 2010 to do so. I am so incredibly grateful for the opportunity given to me, and it felt unbelievable to bring home the win.
  • Camp/Event
  • MAC Banquet 2023
  • 5/21/23 to 5/21/23
  • End of Season Banquet! I was the recipient of the 2022-2023 Most Improved Award, in recognition of my development during the course of the year. My U16 quad was also given the title of 2022-2023 Crew of the Year.
  • Camp/Event
  • Southwest Youth Championships 2023
  • 5/05/23 to 5/07/23
  • We started off regionals strong in the U16 quad, putting down the fastest times in both time trials and semifinals. On Sunday, we won gold with a time of 7:57 - 10 seconds faster than the crew who won silver.
