Hi! I’m Frieda Cramer, 17 years old, going into my senior year of high school, and I live in Los Gatos, California. Since 2021 I have been rowing on the beautiful Lexington Reservoir for Los Gatos Rowing Club. When sweeping I usually row port and I also have sculling experience.
A little bit about me, how I got to rowing, etc. …
I am from Germany, moved to the US with my family 11 years ago, and attend a German International School. After having given multiple sports a shot throughout the years, at the beginning of my sophomore year of high school and at the end of the COVID-19 home-quarantine, I was introduced to rowing. What was intended to just be a 2-week trial, suggested by a family friend, turned into a passion I dedicate a large amount of time of my day-to-day life to.
I fell in love with the sport instantly, started into a successful, motivating novice season, and knew immediately I would keep going to row on the women’s varsity team. What I really love is the package deal that comes with rowing as a team sport - a second home and safe space at the boathouse; a second family through the teammates and friends; getting to workout, stay healthy, support each other and push your limits on both good and bad days.
With the closest family being over 5.600 miles away, traveling is almost unavoidable over summer. Although I would love to take part in competitive/ development summer rowing camps or programs in the US, this isn’t really an option for me. However, in my hometown in Germany I do still get the chance to row over the summer at “Der Hamburger & Germania Ruder Club” in Hamburg. I rowed there over the Summer 2022 and will row there this Summer 2023.
This sport means so much me, has taught me so much about myself mentally and physically, and has motivated me to take my rowing career beyond the high school level to a collegiate level.
Outside of rowing you can find me working on school projects, as academic success is important to me, driving to get food, eating, organizing myself/ the space around me, writing to-do lists, or in the kitchen pursuing my passion for baking.
