Hi my name is Fiona Rosales, I am a 17 years old open weight rower. This is my Senior year at Oakland School for the Arts. My pathway is Vocal Music and I have been a part of the department since 6th grade. I joined the Oakland Tech high school rowing team 3 years ago. Since joining the team my high school experience is so much better than I could ever have imagined it would be.
I love the way that crew makes me feel both physically and mentally. I have made many great friends over the last 3 years from being on this incredible team. Crew has helped me in more ways than just making friends and my mental and physical health. The dedication has helped me learn to manage time more efficiently. This has helped with keeping my good grades and an overall good high school experience. My first few years of crew were a struggle because of the pandemic. My team did daily zoom workouts and once it was deemed safe to return to regular activities we went back to practice in singles to keep up on our skills.
After high school I would like to study to become a Veterinarian. I would like to earn my bachelor's degree in Biology and then go to graduate school to pursue a degree in veterinary medicine. I have always loved animals and I have had my mind set on becoming a veterinarian for years.
I would love to continue to row competitively throughout college in an environment that is committed, supportive, and fun. I look forward to building a strong bond with my teammates to become great rowers together. I think that the stronger bond we have the better we will be able to grow and support each other. I am very motivated to become a stronger rower, both mentally and physically, to be a great teammate to all!
