Hi, I’m Olivia Kark and I am currently a junior at Oakland School for the Arts. My pathway is Theater; however, I am interested in majoring in Computer Science or Engineering. Although I really enjoy the arts, I have found that Science and Math are most fulfilling for me. I have had some really great Math and Science teachers who encouraged me to pursue my passion within solving problems and applying both subjects to real life problems.
I joined the Oakland Tech Rowing team in March 2021 as a sophomore and immediately fell in love with the sport. Although there were no races at that time due to COVID restrictions, going to practice during the pandemic was a blessing as it strengthened my mental and physical health and increased my self confidence. I’ve developed an incredibly strong bond with both my team members and my coaches, which I am also thankful for.
Though I have less experience than other rowers, I make up for it with my dedication and hard work both on and off the water. Every 2k I have done so far this season, I have beaten my previous record. Within the past year I’ve shaved roughly a minute off of my 2k score and am committed and determined to shave even more by the end of the season.
In college I would love to continue to row competitively with a team and believe I would be a valuable contributor. I have a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and really enjoy being in a team environment. I look forward to creating new bonds with my fellow teammates, working hard together, and becoming the strongest team we can be.
